Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralised three suspected terrorists during an ambush operation along the Turare-Kitibawa-Kuka-Mai Damusa Road in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Security sources told Zagazola that the operation was carried out by troops of 17 Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA as part of ongoing offensive operations against terrorists and criminal elements in the state.

The sources said the troops had taken up strategic blocking positions along the route following intelligence on the movement of fleeing terrorists from the Matazu general area.

“At about 9:40 p.m. on May 9, troops successfully ambushed the terrorists while they were attempting to escape ongoing military operations in the area,” the source said.

According to the sources, three suspected terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms and the sum of N3,500.

Military authorities said the operation formed part of sustained offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace across Katsina State and adjoining areas.

The sources added that troops had continued aggressive clearance operations, ambushes and patrols against criminal elements operating within the North-West region.

Residents were urged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations and improve security across affected communities.
