Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have repelled a bandit attack on Mai-Kwanugga village in Jangebe district of Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, averting what could have been a major tragedy.
The attempted invasion occurred on Saturday, July 5, at about 8:15 a.m., when a large group of armed bandits, reportedly wielding sophisticated weapons, advanced towards the village.
However, a swift and coordinated response by troops and other security elements on ground thwarted the incursion, forcing the assailants to retreat into surrounding forest areas.
Despite the successful repulsion, two villagers working on their farms at the outskirts of Mai-Kwanugga were caught in the crossfire. One of them, Muhammadu Bello, was fatally shot, while Abubakar Sani, sustained gunshot wounds.
The deceased was evacuated to the General Hospital in Jangebe for post-mortem examination, while the injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment.
Sources confirmed that clearance operations are ongoing in the area to locate and dislodge the fleeing bandits, as part of wider efforts to restore peace across Zamfara’s troubled districts.
