Joint security operatives on Friday repelled an attempted attack by armed bandits on Keta town in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Zagazola Makama learnt that the attack, which occurred at about 2:30 p.m., involved a group of nine bandits riding on three motorcycles who tried to infiltrate the town.

However, they met stiff resistance from joint security forces stationed in the area and were forced to retreat after a brief but intense exchange of fire.

While fleeing, the assailants shot and fatally wounded a 23-year-old resident of Old Keta village, Daddisu Aliyu.

Aliyu was rushed to the Keta Primary Health Care Centre but was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were later handed over to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites after a preliminary examination.

Security sources commended the swift and coordinated response of the operatives, which averted what could have been a major attack on the community.

They also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts by reporting suspicious movements or activities in their areas.
