Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram on their location in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing several terrorists during the encounter.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on May 31 when terrorists launched an attack on troops of 222 Battalion (Mechanised) deployed at Alou Dam.
According to the sources, the troops, with reinforcement support, engaged the attackers and successfully repelled the assault after a brief exchange of fire. Four terrorists were neutralized in the encounter.
The sources said one soldier sustained gunshot wounds and was immediately evacuated for medical treatment.
Following the operation, troops recovered weapons from the scene of the attack, while a search of the general area was ongoing to track fleeing insurgents.
Security authorities said the troops have maintained a strong presence in the area to prevent regrouping and further attacks by terrorist elements.
They added that operations remain ongoing within the general area as part of sustained efforts to deny insurgents freedom of action in the North-East.
