Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during a fighting patrol in Kanama Village, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, forcing the insurgents to retreat towards the Sambisa Forest axis.
Security sources said the operation was conducted on June 15 following credible intelligence on terrorist movement within the area.
Troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kanama, working in conjunction with local vigilante members, advanced to the location at about 5:00 p.m. on June 14. Contact was made with the insurgents at about 3:15 a.m. on June 15, leading to a brief exchange of fire.
The terrorists were reportedly dislodged in disarray, abandoning several items including nine bicycles, one Baofeng communication radio, one mobile phone, three pairs of slippers and three locally made water bottles.
No fatalities were recorded among the troops, while one vigilante member sustained a gunshot wound during the encounter and was evacuated for medical treatment.
Security sources confirmed that the recovered items have been taken into custody for further exploitation and investigation.
