Troops of 8 Division, Nigerian Army, have rescued five kidnapped victims and evacuated two civilians who sustained gunshot wounds during a late-night attack in Sokoto State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:26 p.m. on April 1 in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of the state, following reports of terrorist activities in the area.

The sources disclosed that troops responded swiftly to the distress call and, on arrival, discovered that two civilians had sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

According to the sources, the troops then launched a pursuit of the fleeing terrorists along their withdrawal route, but no contact was made.

During subsequent exploitation of the area, five kidnapped victims were found and rescued after they were abandoned by the fleeing assailants.

“The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families, while the injured persons are receiving treatment,” the source said.

The operation, the sources added, was conducted without further incident, as troops continued clearance operations in the general area to prevent a recurrence of attacks.

Security authorities have assured residents of sustained efforts to rid the area of criminal elements and restore lasting peace in the community.
