Two persons have been killed and several houses set ablaze following a communal clash between neighbouring communities in Obi Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on April 28 when a group of armed men, numbering over 100, reportedly invaded Adiko community from Ayinu in Oju Local Government Area over a land dispute.
The sources disclosed that the attackers opened fire on residents, killing two persons, and proceeded to burn houses and destroy farmlands during the assault.
According to the sources, security operatives and tactical teams were deployed to the area shortly after the attack, while the bodies of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital in Obi.
They added that authorities from both local government areas have initiated dialogue between the affected communities to de-escalate tensions.
Efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible for the attack, while security presence has been reinforced in the area to prevent further violence.
