Armed bandits have killed one person, injured another and rustled two camels during a late-night attack on Gundunga Village in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on July 14 when a large number of heavily armed bandits stormed the remote community, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents.

Upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kware immediately mobilised tactical police teams alongside personnel from the Nigerian Army Forward Operating Base (FOB), the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Village Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to the scene.

According to the sources, the assailants fled after rustling two camels belonging to residents of the community.

During the attack, Mustapha Mai Kware, 53, was shot dead, while Mubarak Bashiru, 25, sustained machete injuries inflicted by the attackers.

The deceased was evacuated to a hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the injured victim was admitted for medical treatment.

Security sources said joint security operatives have launched extensive bush-combing operations to track down the fleeing bandits, recover the rustled camels and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
