A joint security team has foiled a kidnapping attempt at the residence of the District Head of Badariya in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, rescuing the traditional ruler and his family from suspected kidnappers.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred in the early hours of July 15 when gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked the residence of the Hakimin Badariya, Urotu Shehu, located in the Hubbare area of Birnin Kebbi.

The sources said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Birnin Kebbi received a distress call at about 1:13 a.m. from Alhaji Uwaisu Saad of Ubandoman Kebbi, informing him of the ongoing attack.

Acting swiftly, the DPO led a joint team comprising operatives from the division, personnel of the 36 Police Mobile Force (PMF), officers of the Operations Department, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes to the scene.

According to the sources, the suspected kidnappers fled into a nearby bush on sighting the advancing security operatives, abandoning their mission.

The security team successfully rescued the district head and members of his family without any of them being abducted.

However, three labourers working at the residence sustained injuries during the attack and were evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, where they are receiving treatment.

Security sources said normalcy has since been restored in the area, while monitoring and security surveillance have been intensified to prevent any further attacks and track down the fleeing suspects.
