Dr. Boukar Michel, Chad’s Minister of Communications, Digital Economy, and Digitalization, visited Bagasola on November 22 to evaluate the aftermath of Boko Haram’s activities in the region and shed light on the living conditions of displaced refugees.
The minister was accompanied by journalists as part of efforts to document and address the impact of insurgency on affected communities.
This visit follows the tragic events of October 27, 2004, when a brutal attack in Barkaram claimed the lives of 40 Chadian soldiers including two Maj Generals.
During his visit, Dr. Michel inspected damaged infrastructure and met with displaced persons, many of whom have been living under dire conditions since the insurgency began. He expressed the government’s commitment to restoring stability, rebuilding communities, and providing humanitarian support to those displaced by the conflict.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance security in the region and support military operations aimed at neutralizing Boko Haram’s influence. His visit comes as part of broader government initiatives to bring international attention to the challenges faced by residents in the Lake Province.
