EIGS fighters kill five civilians in Niger’s Tillabéri region

At least five civilians have been confirmed dead following an attack by suspected fighters of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) on Friday morning in Wala Gounto village, Anzourou district of Tillabéri Region, western Niger Republic.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the assailants stormed the village in the early hours and opened fire on residents, leading to multiple fatalities and panic.
The provisional death toll stands at five civilians, while several others reportedly fled the area to nearby communities for safety.
The attackers are believed to be members of the EIGS, a faction notorious for violent attacks across the border areas of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
