FG Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening NAF’s Operational Capacity Against Emerging Threats

The Federal Government has reiterated its dedication to enhancing the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) operational capacity to address emerging security challenges. The assurance was delivered by the Minister of Defence, Dr. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, during the 2024 NAF Training, Operations, and Safety Seminar held in Abuja.
Dr. Kana praised the NAF’s proactive efforts under the leadership of Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar in combating insurgency and terrorism, particularly in restoring stability to the Northeast. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing the necessary support to sustain and improve the Air Force’s capabilities in dealing with the nation’s evolving security landscape.
NAF’s “Golden Era” of Transformation
In his address, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, described the current period as a “Golden Era” for the Nigerian Air Force, marked by significant advancements in infrastructure, training, and operational assets. He highlighted recent acquisitions of advanced platforms, including jets and helicopters, as well as anticipated deliveries of cutting-edge military equipment.
The Air Chief urged seminar participants to utilize the knowledge shared to enhance training, operations, and safety protocols, aligning with the seminar’s theme, “Agile and Resilient Air Power for National Security.”
Key milestones celebrated during the seminar included:Winging of 28 New Pilots and UAV Operators: These personnel, trained both locally and internationally, are expected to bolster NAF’s operational readiness. The signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with key organizations underscores the Air Force’s commitment to operational safety. Accreditation of the Air Traffic Services Training Centre (ATSTC): The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) accredited the ATSTC as an Approved Training Organisation (ATO), further solidifying NAF’s training capacity.
The seminar emphasized the Nigerian Air Force’s readiness to address emerging threats through innovation, training, and improved safety measures. The event also served as a platform for strategic discussions on leveraging air power to enhance national security.
