Gunmen have abducted a 20-year-old man after invading a cattle ranch at Asanmimi village along the Akala Road-New Iseyin/Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo State.

The incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, while the ranchers were asleep.

According to a police source, the incident was reported to the Atiba Police Division on Friday, August 21, by Mamuda Abdullahi of Gongo Mi village, Igbeti, accompanied by Seidu Bolaji of Asanmimi village, Oyo.

The police source said Abdullahi had received information from a neighbour that his cattle rearer, identified as Alhaji Owolabi Amadu of Asanmimi village, had been attacked at the ranch.

The attackers, numbering about three and armed with dangerous weapons, reportedly covered their faces with masks before invading the ranch.

During the attack, the hoodlums allegedly tied up five cattle rearers and abducted Mamuda Ibrahim, 20, the son of one of the victims, before fleeing into the surrounding bushes.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Atiba Division, immediately mobilised a joint team comprising police operatives, Amotekun Corps personnel, vigilantes and local hunters to the area.

The team commenced an intensive search of the surrounding bushes in an effort to locate and rescue the abducted victim and apprehend the perpetrators.

The command has also reinforced the operation with personnel from its Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

A police source said the search operation was still ongoing, with security personnel combing the area for the victim and the suspected kidnappers.
