Troops of the 17 Brigade Quick Reaction Force (QRF), in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have recovered 126 rustled livestock after ambushing suspected terrorists in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 6:00 a.m. on July 26 following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists driving rustled livestock through Yankwani Village.

The sources said the joint security team laid an ambush at a known crossing point used by the suspects in the village.

On sighting the troops, the terrorists came under fire and fled into the surrounding bushes, abandoning the stolen animals.

A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of 126 livestock, comprising 83 cows and 43 sheep.

The recovered animals were later handed over to the Chairman of the Bakori Peace Keeping Committee, Alhaji Tijjani Mohammed, in the presence of local government officials for identification and eventual return to their rightful owners.

Military sources described the operation as successful and without casualties, adding that efforts are ongoing to sustain offensive operations against terrorist and cattle-rustling networks across Katsina State.
