Man Killed in Mob Attack Over Alleged Witchcraft in Zamfara

A man, Sharahu Haruna, was killed during a mob attack in Gidan Katakare, Zamfara State, following allegations that his relative, Haruna Lawali, had bewitched a woman in the community.

 

Zagazola Makama understands that the incident occurred on April 11, 2025, at around 10:30 p.m. Members of the community mobilized and stormed Lawali’s house after accusations that he was responsible for the alleged witchcraft of Nafisa Masa’udu.

 

During the altercation, a Dane gun was discharged, accidentally killing Sharahu Haruna. 

 

Sources said that the  police were notified, and officers from the Birnin Magaji Division responded to the scene, where the body was photographed before being released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

 

“Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, and the community’s role in the attack is being examined,”said the sources.
