Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu has assumed duty as the 14th Theatre Commander, North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, Borno.

Shuaibu took over the command from Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Command and Control Centre, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

Chibuisi was redeployed to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Abuja, as a senior research fellow, after serving in the theatre for six months.

In his remarks, Chibuisi commended officers and men of the theatre and critical stakeholders of the Operation Hadin Kai for their contributions in the successes recorded during his tenure.

”I consider the opportunity to serve as your commander for the past six months an honor and a rare privilege. Let me use this opportunity to thank the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and the Service Chiefs for finding me worthy to serve in this capacity.

”As members of this noble profession of arms, we have dedicated ourselves to serving and protecting our dear nation. I appreciate all of you for your doggedness and support in our fight against the enemies of the nation in the North-East,” he said.

He urged the soldiers to sustain the tempo and extend similar support to the new commander to enable him to achieve more successes in clearing remnants of the terrorists and enhancing peace restoration to the region.

Also speaking, Shuaibu said that he would sustain the tempo and build on the feat achieved by his predecessor.
He described his appointment as an opportunity to serve, adding that his role was to galvanize the officers and men toward achieving the mandate of the operation.

”So, we will just go ahead to enhance our ongoing operations, and ensure that officers and men do what they are supposed to do,” he said.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) command’s flag to the new Commander.
