Police officer in custody over fatal shooting of community secretary in Delta

A police sergeant attached to the Mobile Police Unit 57 in Ukana, Akwa Ibom State, has been taken into custody following the alleged accidental discharge that led to the death of a community leader in Delta State.

 

The officer, identified as Sgt. Irimiya I. Yaa, reportedly shot and killed one Ozuor Ezekiel Osadolor, the Secretary of Obiyima Community in Abavo, Ika South Local Government Area.

 

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred while the officer was in the company of one Chief Freedom Oseke Udoka, said to be the Eleme (traditional titleholder) of the Obiyima Community.

 

The victim was rushed to the Central Hospital in Agbor, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

 

Police sources say both the sergeant and the community leader were immediately taken into custody, while an AK-47 rifle and four rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

 

The corpse has been deposited at Anioma Clinic Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

 

The police added that preliminary investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
