Bandits, vigilantes clash in Plateau forest, casualties feared

A violent clash has reportedly occurred between suspected bandits and members of the Miyetti Allah Vigilante group in Odare Forest, Kukawa village, Dengi District of Kanam Local Government Area in Plateau State.
Zagazola gathered that the incident, which happened on Monday, July 7, at about 4:30 p.m., was confirmed by community sources who informed a joint security team that arrived at the area following a distress report.
According to the sources, the vigilante group had ventured into the forest for an operation when they were ambushed by armed bandits, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. There were unconfirmed reports of casualties on both sides, but the exact number remains unknown.
Efforts by the security team to access the dense forest have so far been unsuccessful due to terrain and security risks.
However, coordinated operations involving the military and other agencies are underway to penetrate the forest and ascertain the full extent of the incident.
Residents in surrounding communities have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement as security presence has been intensified in the area.
