Moussa Ag Badi, a high-ranking commander of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS), has reportedly been killed by two of his closest associates. Sources indicate the incident took place yesterday morning, November 11,  in Tin-Akoff, a town in northern Burkina Faso near the Malian border.

Ag Badi, who held command over EIGS operations between In-Tillit and Tessit in Mali, was allegedly shot by two trusted companions who subsequently defected to join the rival al-Qaeda-affiliated Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM).

The assassination could further destabilize the region, where competing factions frequently engage in violent confrontations over territory and influence.
