Teenager killed during foiled animal theft in Yobe

A 17-year-old boy has died from machete wounds sustained during a failed attempt to steal domestic animals in Sasawa village, Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Zagazola Makama learnt that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, Aug. 5, when the deceased, identified as Ahmadu Buba, alongside two others – Wale Yabe and Buba Manu, allegedly stole domestic animals from the village.
Sources said that the owner of the animals, with the support of local villagers, tracked the suspects through their footprints.
A confrontation ensued during which Ahmadu Buba, who reportedly refused to flee and attempted to fight back, was attacked with machetes and sustained deep cuts to his head and neck. His two accomplices escaped the scene.
The victim’s father, Umaru Adamu, of Agidini village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, reported the matter to the police later that night.
Police operatives immediately rushed the injured teenager to the General Hospital in Babbangida, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer.
The police said an investigation into the incident has commenced.
