Terrorists Attack Gendarmerie in Banibangou, Niger

Armed terrorists launched an attack on the gendarmerie in Banibangou, Tillabéri region of Niger Republic, on Sunday evening, firing heavily at security forces and looting livestock from the community.

 

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack began around 4 p.m. when the assailants raided the village and its surroundings, stealing a large number of animals. Shortly after, they launched an assault on the Banibangou gendarmerie, firing indiscriminately.

 

Witnesses reported intense gunfire and flames visible from the northern part of the village as the attack escalated. The assault coincided with the time many residents were breaking their Ramadan fast.

 

As of the time of this report, there was no official confirmation of casualties or the extent of the damage.
