Troops arrest three suspected militia over attack on cattle in Plateau

Troops of Sector 8, Sub-Sector 82, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have arrested three suspected militia following an alleged attack on cattle grazing in Pankshin Town, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The troops, operating under Operation HARD KNOCK, responded at about 0600 hours on Aug. 28 following a report that cattle belonging to a herder had been attacked by suspected natives while grazing in the area.
Upon arrival at the scene, the troops found one cow killed, while five others had sustained injuries from suspected machete cuts.
The troops subsequently arrested three suspects identified as Dekom Enka, 45; Gyikatda Monday, 21; and Kanshinen Danladi, 19.
Other suspects reportedly fled the scene before the troops could apprehend them.
The arrested suspects were profiled and remain in custody for further investigation and appropriate action.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions over farmer-herder relations in parts of Plateau State, where attacks on livestock and farmland destruction have the potential to trigger reprisal attacks and further community conflict.
Security forces have continued to strengthen patrols and engagements with communities across the state as part of efforts to prevent escalation, protect lives and property, and promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.
