Troops of 162 Amphibious Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI have arrested three suspects in connection with a robbery incident at Gar Gwigwi village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that information was initially received at about 6:00 p.m. on May 21 regarding the incident allegedly carried out by an unconfirmed number of suspects believed to be members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
According to the sources, victims later formally reported the incident to troops at about 9:00 a.m. on May 22, prompting immediate action by security personnel.
The sources said three suspects identified as Aliyu Mamadu, Umar Mohammed and Adamu Aliyu were subsequently identified by the victims and apprehended by troops.
Items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest included five mobile phones, a nylon containing substance suspected to be ice, a locally made charm, a necklace chain, a small white scarf, two wristwatches, a dagger, a Quranic booklet, the sum of N1,070 and a dane gun.
The sources further disclosed that the dane gun was identified as belonging to one Manu Ibrahim, a member of Miyetti Allah, who claimed that the suspects had robbed him of the firearm a day before the incident.
“The firearm was handed over to the owner after proper confirmation,” the sources said.
The suspects are currently in custody at Abogo Largema Military Cantonment for further investigation and necessary action.
Security operatives said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the group linked to the robbery incident.
The military added that the general security situation across the North-East theatre remained calm but unpredictable.
