Troops of Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have foiled an attempt by suspected armed herders and their cattle to invade farmlands around Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, when troops deployed at Manja Forest responded to reports of the movement of the armed herders through a forested area in the community.
The troops’ swift intervention forced the suspected criminals to withdraw further into the forest.
A subsequent search of the area revealed that the suspected herders had uprooted and looted farm produce, including yam and potatoes that were due for harvesting.
Security forces have commenced efforts, in collaboration with Fulani leaders in the area, to identify the suspects and establish their whereabouts.
Troops have also intensified patrols around the community and adjoining areas to prevent further attacks on farmers and destruction of farmlands.
