Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled an attempted kidnapping of farmers by suspected terrorists in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 12:35 p.m. on June 22 when troops of the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) Administration Battalion, while on fighting patrol along the Kukata-Kotonkoro road, encountered the suspected terrorists.

According to the sources, the terrorists had attempted to abduct farmers working in the area but fled on sighting the advancing troops.

The swift response of the troops prevented the abduction and forced the criminals to abandon their plan, allowing the farmers to escape unharmed.

The sources added that the troops maintained dominance in the area and continued patrols to forestall further criminal activities.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to protect rural communities and secure major routes against terrorist and bandit activities in Niger State.
