Troops of Sector 4, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have foiled an attempt by suspected Berom Militia to steal 19 cattle along the Jong–Nyerwei road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The troops responded at about 1433 hours on Aug. 28 following reports of sporadic gunshots by suspected cattle rustlers operating along the route.
The quick intervention by the troops reportedly forced the criminals to abandon their operation and flee into the surrounding area.
Further checks revealed that the suspects had attempted to rustle 19 cattle belonging to Idris Abdullahi.
Following the incident, troops launched offensive operations around the Jong Hills in an effort to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation ENDURING PEACE to protect rural communities, safeguard livestock and prevent criminal elements from exploiting vulnerable areas in Plateau State.
Security forces have continued to intensify patrols and clearance operations around known criminal routes and flashpoints in the state to prevent cattle rustling, kidnapping and other forms of rural criminality.
