The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander, Operation ENDURING PEACE, has engaged Irigwe farmers and other stakeholders from Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State over recurring farmland destruction and isolated attacks in the area.
The meeting, held on Aug. 28 at the headquarters of Sector 3, Operation ENDURING PEACE, was chaired by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Brig.-Gen. M.S. Sule, who represented the GOC/Commander.
The deliberations focused on the recurring incidents of farmland destruction and isolated attacks reported in parts of Bassa LGA, as well as measures to prevent further occurrences.
The meeting also examined ways of strengthening collaboration between security agencies, farmers, herders, traditional authorities and other community stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence.
Participants were encouraged to enhance communication and early-warning mechanisms, particularly the prompt reporting of suspicious movements and activities that could threaten communities.
The engagement forms part of the military’s non-kinetic approach to addressing local security challenges while complementing ongoing operations to protect lives, property and agricultural activities.
The meeting ended peacefully without any incident.
Operation ENDURING PEACE has continued to sustain engagements with communities and other stakeholders across Plateau State as part of efforts to address emerging security threats and prevent conflicts between farming and pastoralist communities.
