Troops of 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have foiled an attempted attack by suspected terrorists and neutralised two of the assailants in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the troops, deployed at Ruwan Godiya, responded to a distress call from residents at about 7:30 p.m. on May 28 following reports that armed terrorists were sighted around a nearby bush preparing to invade the community.
According to the sources, the troops immediately mobilised to the area to prevent the attack and protect residents.
However, before the troops arrived at the village, the terrorists reportedly sighted the advancing soldiers and opened fire while some fled into the bush.
The troops responded with heavy gunfire, leading to the neutralisation of two of the suspected terrorists during the exchange.
The troops thereafter pursued the fleeing suspects and recovered one motorcycle and 12 rounds of ammunition abandoned during the escape.
Military authorities said no casualty was recorded among the troops during the operation.
The sources added that aggressive patrols were subsequently conducted around the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of movement and forestall further attacks.
The military reiterated its commitment to sustaining ongoing operations aimed at protecting lives and property across Katsina State.
