Troops Impound 19 Cattle Over Farm Destruction in Plateau’s Mangu

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have impounded 19 cattle found grazing on cultivated farmlands following a reported case of farm destruction in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 6:25 a.m. on July 31 at Akasu Village.
The sources said troops of Sector 8 OPEP responded to a distress call over the destruction of farmlands and, upon arrival, discovered 19 cattle grazing on two separate farms without any herder present.
The livestock were immediately intercepted and moved to a secure location to prevent further damage to the affected farms and forestall possible confrontation between farmers and herders.
Security sources said efforts are ongoing to identify the owner of the cattle so that the matter can be resolved through established conflict-resolution mechanisms.
As part of the process, leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the area have been contacted to assist in identifying the livestock owner and facilitate an amicable settlement between the affected parties.
The operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to curb illegal grazing, protect farmlands during the farming season and prevent disputes from escalating into violent communal clashes across Plateau State.
