Troops recover 53 cattle in offensive operation in Benue

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recovered 53 cattle during an offensive operation against suspected armed elements in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
A military source said the operation was conducted at about 9:45 a.m. on May 4 along the Aila–Odugbeho road.
According to the source, troops deployed at Akwu advanced on a suspected criminal enclave when they made contact with armed elements.
“Following a brief exchange of fire, the armed elements fled the area,” the source said.
He added that troops conducted a follow-up search of the area and recovered 53 cattle suspected to have been rustled by the fleeing criminals.
The recovered animals were subsequently handed over to a representative of the Agatu Local Government Chairman for further identification and necessary action.
The source said troops have continued to dominate the general area to deny criminal elements freedom of action and to sustain peace in the locality.
