Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have restored normalcy following a communal clash between two communities in Benue.

A military source said the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on May 4, involving residents of Tse Anjov in Makurdi Local Government Area and Tse Aduku in Mbalom Council Ward of Gwer East Local Government Area.

The source said troops deployed at Agam responded promptly to distress calls from the affected communities.

“On arrival, troops observed that several houses had been burnt by the assailants, who fled before the troops got to the scene,” he said.

According to preliminary investigation, the clash was triggered by a land dispute between the two communities.

He added that troops immediately intervened, restored calm, and prevented further escalation of violence.

“Troops have continued to dominate the general area to forestall any breakdown of law and order,” the source said.

He assured that security agencies were working to ensure lasting peace and urged residents to embrace dialogue in resolving disputes.
