Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have recovered 31 cattle found grazing unattended on a farmland in Kak community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, following the reported disappearance of their owner.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. on April 27 when troops responded to a distress call over the destruction of a farm belonging to one Danladi Michael.
According to the sources, troops arrived at the scene and, in collaboration with the farmer, discovered the cattle grazing freely on the farmland without any herder present.
The sources noted that preliminary assessments raised concerns that the owner of the livestock may have been attacked or killed, as the animals appeared to have been left unattended for some time.
The troops subsequently evacuated the cattle to a secured military location to prevent further damage and facilitate investigation.
Security sources added that efforts are ongoing to trace the owner of the cattle and determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, while patrols have been intensified in the area to forestall further incidents.
They reiterated that operations would continue across flashpoints in Riyom and adjoining communities to protect lives and property.
Zagazola report that Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Mangu and other communities has become a flash point where any fulani herdsmen grazing cattle is attacked, killed and his cattle rustled by Berom Militia in support of residents of the communities.
