A personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was lynched by a mob at Shuwarin Market in Jigawa State after being mistaken for an armed robber while attempting to make an arrest in mufti.

According to sources, the officer, who was not in uniform but armed with a pistol, was confronted by the suspect who allegedly raised a false alarm, shouting “armed robber” to attract the attention of the crowd.
The mob immediately descended on the officer and inflicted severe injuries before the arrival of security operatives from the Shuwarin Division.
He was rushed to the General Hospital in Dutse by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team, but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
His service pistol was recovered from the scene.
